Just got back from trip to the Home Depot and noticed that while running it all the way up & down it makes a sound reminisent of everybody's favorite 7ft tall fuzzball from Star Wars.
Specially' when he's pissed.
Short of replacing the felt & wiper (which I will eventually do, I'm sure.)...
Has anyone got any recomendations that they've done in the way of cleaning & treating the rubber & felt that will quiet it down for a while?
Been so long and I'm so old I don't even remember what he sounded like.......
I spray Silicone Lube in my window tracks every now and then.......makes them operate smoother and quieter. If the tracks are real dirty you might want to use some degreaser first.......Just a thought
I've been told that silicon spray attracts moisture... Be sure not to spray it on anything metal or you'll be dealing with rust. My rear leaf springs were squeakin' and a friend told me to hit them with silicon spray... I did, and now my leafs are all covered in surface rust. No bigge, except now they're ugly and they SQUEAK AGAIN!
I would use white lithium grease instead of silicone but that is just my preference.
I thought both of them prevented moisture equally well but the silicone may eat the paint and after driving a few times in the rain with dirt and road grime maybe it wears off. Not sure.
Thanx guys for the track lubing suggestions but the noise is not coming from there. It is from the top as the window as it passes into the body of the door. Where most of us rest our left arm.
I guess I'll pop the panel off, wash the rubber & felt, then armour all the rubber & hit the felt with something like a spray furniture wax after it dries. Thought some one would have a non-residue idea that would lessen smearing.
I've got a little tube of graphite grease that I'll hit the tracks with. (Left over from a previous job)
Got a laundry list of stuff for my next free weekend.
Good basic info. Didn't know about the re-paint issue, thanx, I'll be careful. Might put some on a cloth and wipe the rubber down with it after cleaning.
Wart,
Yes, the seal outside has not gotten to the rock hard & cracking state yet. See post #1, I'm sure they'll have to be rep'd eventually.
