The VIN on my 48 starts with 88RY. I don't think 97HY is a 48 VIN.
There's no way to tell an F2 from an F3 because up to serial number 110141 "Y" was used for both 3/4 ton variants. After that serial number "D" was used to designate F3's. You'll have to go by the badging on the cowl by the door or the GVW on the rating plate - look for 5700 or 6800 gvw.
Mtflat,
I got the vin from my vehicle title. will have to ck. cowl, glove box etc. later as it is in a body shop.I do know it had a v-8 in it when i bought it.I still have the heads and intake along with the top mounted generator. one of the heads was stamped Mercury and one was stamped Ford. The engine was so cracked internally i scrapped it.. I believe I still have the transmission also. will ck, storage.Maybe this thing had a six at one time and was changed to a v-8. will try and get more info. I was driving this truck for years and wrecked it. in the process of repaing it now. thanks again and sorry for so little info at this time. walt
p.s. trans was a four speed, granny gear.
Hello everyone. Sorry I have taken so long to get back. Just found some one to do body work on my '48 ? I have a mag called LMC truck and looking thru it makes me ? my 48 as a 48 since it DOES start with a 9. Also the 7h for a six cyl. I had the flat head v-8. Also my has chrome grille strips instead of the painted ones.I did get the vin from the title and not directly from the vehicle. will try and get it again this weekend.Again sorry for fraggin' my feet. will try to do better. thanks for your patience.
What was puzzling about the vin you posted was the serial string.
9 was for 49/50
7H was a six cylinder, 8R for the V8
Y was 3/4 ton with an 8' box
101432 would be a 48.
Several possibilities: Clerk typing the title hit the 9 instead of the 8. OR someone lost the original title and bought one. OR the truck has been pieced together and the title no longer matches the truck. OR............
Check the top frame rail for a vin stamping if you have time. Lightly stamped, they're hard to find and can be located in the engine compartment on either rail - usually just in front of the steering gearbox or opposite side up near the motormount crossmember. Often need a light source to make them out. This will tell you what your frame was originally.
Thanks mtf, I will ck. those places. There have been frame areas worked on and I hope the vin wasn't destroyed.pieced together is a possibility.I know front grille has factory holes for chrome strips and I was told that was definitely '48 but I am learning alot more now that I have talked with you. My truck is in body shop and it will be a while before i can ck. will call them tonight and see if they can record them for me. thanks again.
