I need to replace a cracked passenger side window on my 53.
What is involved in replacing a side roll down window? I have the replacement glass and I am not sure how it mounts into the track.
I'd like to have everything I need so that I don't get stuck driving the truck without a window.
Thanks for any help you can give. I did a search, but didn't find a clear answer.
The glass sits in a channel that is attached to the lift arms. The channel holds the special glass-setting 'tape' that grips the glass and the channel.
I just used silicone caulk to hold my glass to the channel. I may have to resort to heat when I decide to remove a window but it works well for now.
Before you pull the old glass out measure how far the glass sticks out past the ends of the channel.
I recommend using the special tape and adding some silicone. The glass has to be centered in the channel or the window will not roll up correctly. To get the old glass out, I recommend removing the whole mechanism from the door following the procedure outlined in the manual. Then use a propane torch to heat the old rubber so that the glass can be pulled out. Good luck, Jag
