Torque Converter Suggestions ?

I'm building a 55 F100 with a 460 and C-6.
The engine has 9 to 1 Speed Pro's,Edelbrock Performer kit(intake,cam,750 carb).
The truck might see the local 1/8th mile strip a couple of times a year but will mostly be driven weekends and back and forth to work sometimes.
A fellow at Jegs suggested the Saturday Nite Special TCI.
Any other suggestions/experiences?

I'd go with the stock converter. With an engine that big, a vehicle that heavy and a cam that small, there is no need for anything more. My $0.03.

My '53 F100 has a 400 w/4V Cleveland heads(10.3:1 CR) and a C6 tranny. My intake is an Edelbrock Performer and carb is a 750 CFM Carter. My cam is a Crane H278-2 and is more agressive than the Edelbrock Performer.
I am using a TCI Saturday Night Special torque converter. I am quite happy with it and I am glad I got it. My truck is quite drivable on the street, but I don't know what it would be like without the high stall TC.
The trade is drivability vs gas mileage. I don't think that there is much price difference. I would select drivability over gas mileage on a street cruiser.

Wheel size and rear end gearing play an important part in determining the size stall convertor to purchase. I learned the hard way. I put my engine together with a few nice modifications and JEGs recommended the same torque convertor. I also bought the TCI tranny since mine had over 100k and I wanted a good strong tranny. But....I had a 2.73 rear and the normal rpms for everyday driving were typically below 2000 rpm. I would normally not hit the 1800-2000 rpm stall, the convertor would just slip and heat up everything (especially on the road) and I eventually burned up my new tranny. So...you need to make sure that your normal driving exceeds the rpm of your stall convertor, i.e., my son has an S10 with a 350hp 350, automatic and 4.56 rear gears. You darn near have to get the thing up to 3000 rpm to move it from the stop sign so he could easily put in a 3000 rpm stall. Also, make sure that you run a good transmission cooler when running a stall convertor. Keeping the fluid cool is the key to keeping your tranny from cooking.

Sounds like I better stick with stock for now.I've got an 8.8 rear axle in the truck from a 97 Town Car with a 2.73 ratio.I want to start with that ratio but I have 3.25,3.55,and 3.73 if I need them.I can change to the TCI if I need to go deeper on the gear.
Thanks for all the info!Y'all have been very helpful!

What about a stock small block convertor to get a little smaller size but well designed fins. A little adapting ha to go on inside and out side but no fin bending.
