I've changed out all of the coils with ones from Summit, The truck runs great until I get to 4500 rpm in 2nd gear, then it just runs out of steam. By 4700 rpm my Service Sngine Soon light starts flashing. Checking the codes I am still getting a P0300 Random Misfire Detected code.
Is there a way to check the EGR valve to see if it is working or maybe if it is stuck open?
Why would this only happen at that RPM and only starting in 2nd gear? 1st gear runs through just fine each time. Is there something that I am missing?
after all that you have put in it I must ask have you tryed any type of injector cleaner? if you can find it try the tecron from chevron. It just seams with all the RPM direct trouble you may have fould injectors, they do get that way from carbon build up.
I have used Seafoam sucked in through my PCV valve and through my gas tank. I also had the dealer do a full flush using a Snap-On machine with a concentrated solution to clean everything out.
The truck is running better all around until I get to that point in 2nd gear. I have recently taken out my Cam Position Sensor and cleaned it but it looked fine. I do not know how to test it though with a multimeter.
Next on my list is perhaps a stuck open EGR... But I need to research how to test/fix that... I was also thinking that maybe the cats are partially clogged...
Don't know if this is relevant, but here goes: My 1998 F150 with 5.4 and 110,000 miles was doing something very similar but I wasn't getting any codes. I searched the internet and finally found a clue (I can't remember where I found it I think on this forum). The clamp was loose on the heater hose/heater core and antifreeze was dripping on to #4 coil and running down the boot. I tried to tighten the clamp but it had already been overtightened so I put on a new one. Dried off the boot and sprayed some air down the hole, no more missing.
there does not seem to be a leak there that I can see. Where is this clamp? I can not see one anywhere... is it on the firewall or something?
Today I took off my throttle body, egr valve and the elbow before the intake manifold, I cleaned everything up (it all looked pretty clean) and put it all back together with new gaskets. I ordered a new Camshaft posistion sensor which will be in by Tuesday.
I am really at wits end with this, I do not know enough about this other then basics. If the CPS does not work I may bite the bullet and buy a new EGR valve, though I heard they seldomly go bad, just need a good cleaning every now and then.
To make it more driveable I have reinstalled my diablosport predator and changed my shift points to shift sooner which helps in making it not misfire.
I think that it has been pinging too some times though... I may not have any hair left by the time I get this sorted out.
