I just brought my truck into have the emblems replaced and I asked them to see if they could get the bed rails and cowling replaced under warranty. They service advisor told me she could take pics and send them to Ford. Well they aprroved it and the parts will be in a few days. Now my experiment of trying to restore the plastic is over. Warning never use mothers back to black. Made my bed rails worse. I firgure I would let you guys know because everyone is always saying how Ford always rejects warranty work and blah blah blah. I atleast have had a positive experience.
by the way one thing I forgot to mention was they did an inspection and they say my front pads have more than 5mm of thickness left and the rear pads have less than 3mm (need to be changed right away). I thought the fronts did the the majority of braking and the amount of dust that comes off the front pads is rediculous. I thought for sure the fronts were going to wear down first. Sounds a little wierd to me but I will go ahead and change them this weekend
My bed rails faded also. I tried a product called Forever black. It's a dye and worked fairly well. In my garage, it looks great, but when in direct sun light, you can see some imperfections. On some sections, I had to do it two or three times, because it was almost a white color. I'm guessing if I keep experimenting with it, I can make it look good all over. But it still looks better than the faded black.

The front pads do more work than the rears, but the rear pads are tiny compared to the fronts too.
I don't think you're the first to witness this, so it kinda seems like they might have missed the balance in pad size a bit. Then again, it's safer to have the rears wear out before the fronts too if you replace all the pads at the same time.

I will see the difference this weekend when I change the pads. I would like to leave the fronts on but all the dust is driving me nuts and if I already have all the tools out might as well do both. I plan on puttng ceramics pads front and rear. No more dust.
A buddy of mine turned me towards a bottle of Meguiars "Hot Shine". It is marketed for tires but I did all of the external plastic and rubber (tires, door pulls, window surrounds, etc). It lasts for months and keeps everything BLACK unlike Armor All and its ilk. That is saying a lot since my truck is always outside in the Florida sun and rain.

I use that stuff on my tires but not the back plastic. But it isn't a problem since Ford replaced it. Now I just need to protect it. No I did not use turtle wax ice from what I have read it runs all over the paint when it rains and it has been raining everyday down in Ft. Lauderdale.
I've used it about three times on my truck since I got her in March. I haven't noticed it running on the paint, and it's been raining just about every day here in Houston for the past 6 weeks.
No runs or streaks. It has rained on mine a half dozen times since I put the ICE on it. You wipe it off after it hazes up and all it leaves behind is a shine.
No I've never had it run on the paint. My truck is black and beige two-tone, I use the ice on every painted and plastic area. I always wipe the truck off after I wash it so it doesn't get water spots, I don't think any product can prevent that and the black plastic parts are still looking brand new after almost 2 years. good luck.
