In my not so educated opinion, I think mine is "slow" to open and close.
I also notice that 50 percent of the time my truck (while coasting to a stop) will be silent (valve open?) and the other times I coast the truck will idle loud. I'm sure there are alot of variables as to why this happens but I'm not sure...
I will try that today and let you know the result.

Doesn't mean that it's NOT working. It could just need a good cleaning. Check the tech folder at the start of this forum for the procedure and DO NOT use brake cleaner to clean it.......use CARB. cleaner.
I like smoke and mine smokes a lot with little effort. During night, I can see how little effort it takes for it to leave trails of smoke, simply with the slighest of normal acceleration.
I've been experiencing some above average lag as well so I wonder if the EGR valve is a little dirty.
I live in British Columbia where we have 105 deg. weather in the summer n -30 deg in the winter n I have a '03 6.0L. I have been using a couple ounces of Howes Diesel Treatment in every tank winter or Summer n the only time I ever get any black smoke is when I hammer on it after a week n blow all the crap outa the pipe. Just thought it might help ya guys. N thats even towing a 5 horse trailer thats 12 000 lbs loaded.
