2000 7.3 SD Problem
I have a 2000 with 169k miles. I’ve had it most of its life and take good care of it with oil and filter changes every 3k miles.
Last month (June 07) I pulled a 27’ travel trailer with it and after that, it seemed like it lost power REAL quick. When I would start it, it sounded like it was running on 6 cylinders for 2-3 seconds and then it sounded about half normal. It would make a low growl noise that I’m not used to and lacked power on take off. I cant really tell how its doing at 65-70 mph but seems ok. It misses at idle off and on..
I changed all filters and the oil with rotella last Thursday night. I fired it up and it immediately sounded great.. No more growl and ran like a scalded dog. We latched onto the trailer the next night and boom, right back to the same ol crap 150 miles up the road.
I thought maybe loading it up with the 7000 lb trailer thinned the oil and this would be a short term issue but the next morning, it still ran like crap-o-la.
I don’t get it !!! I’ve read a ton of forums and I sure don’t want to take it to the STEALERSHIP !!! I just changed my own clutch out with a LUK upgrade in a 6 speed 4x4 so I’m ok with the tools.
I've used Sea foam through the tank and filter.. As a matter of fact, I filled the filter housing up with it on the last oil / filter change.
It sounds fine now but I know that once I pull that trailer again, it will go back down hill..
