2004 or 2007

I have a question for this group is there any advantage or is there a differance in the 2004 6.0 and the 2007 6.0, if there is a differance what is it , and would it wise to trade now for a 2007 6.0 did ford get all the kinks out of this motor, I have a 2004 6.0 SD that runs fine the Y-pipe had to be replaced but thats all, it is bone stock and runs well , drives well , I would like to have the tow command system but thats about it , the ford dealer in my area has made me a good offer for my truck for trade in ,what do you guys think, is it worth it.

First off, welcome to FTE, its a great place!

I think the general concencus on these motors is that some are good and some are bad. If you are happy with your truck I would keep it. It seems the powertrain has been good to you.

If you are looking to trading into a newer truck, most of the bugs were worked out for the 05 model year, so the 07 should be fine. My old man has a 07 and has had no issues at all. Oasis report is key, they should provide you that at the dealership. If not, there is a sticky thread at the top of this forum that can be used.

Whatever you do, make sure you stay on FTE to stay up to date on all issues arrising from these trucks. Information is GOD when it comes to these trucks.

There are physical differences between the two motors. I have not kept track of the changes, but I'm sure one of the regulars has it filed away someplace.

It sounds like a you are happy with your existing truck. If you are just interested in getting a TowCommand system, why not just add it to your existing truck? There are a couple places offering a kit to add the system to your existing Super Duty. I think the kits are down around $400 now. The only part that requires a dealership would be flashing the computer to recognize the TowCommand system.

If you are tempted to get the '07, for whatever reason(s), I would not worry overly much about the engine. The 6.0L had a rocky start, but the later years have been doing much better.
