i have a 93 f150 302 the motor is at the speed shop getting a complete rebuild, the speed shop says im looking at any where from 100 to 125 horsepower gain from porting and polishing and putting in a crane cam crank shaft and boreing the heads etc.the shop told me if i used thier eagle 347 strocker kit i would be makeing about 400 horse power is this true can you get 400 out of a strocker 347 and if so is it good for a daily driver. the cost for the strocker kit installed is $3395 is this price good for a eagle 347 kit
Possible yeah but don't forget you still need to change your computer chip/ injectors and possibly fuel pump to optimize every bit of power have they mentioned that? Will they tune it on a dyno for you? Keep in mind engine builders consider a streetable motor to be one that may get 2mpg and show signs of dependability, and if you can keep it cool and afford to feed it then your good to go. To give you an idea of prices their is a company that has advertised for years in a local auto trader and offer things like this : 393 405hp all kinds of goodies longblock for $2599 warranty/shipping available, 460 30 over all rebuilt $1500, 320 stroker weiand intake among other things 360hp $2599 warranty/shipping available. With a stroker it is not neccecarily hp that is gonna be huge but torque and that is what will really work with your truck and make it scoot. Good luck
thankks for the response, could you tell me the reason i will have to swap out the computer, and will i have to go to mass air to do the eagle 347. if thats the case i guess i will have the shop do thier regular hi pro rebuild that should net my stock 302 about 100 horse power for a $1000 dollars less than the 347 strocker and i wont have to swap out the cumputer injectors etc.. is this a wise way to go i do wnat the most bang for the buck but i dont want to go broke trying to get it.
Here is something to think about. I have built several 302 and 351 engines. The 302 is fine but the block is much weaker than the 351. There are dozens of manufactures where you can get a long block or short block 351 or 302. Building a high HP 302 is fine but remember in order to get those horses the cam will be a high speed cam and will not have any low end torque. A truck needs low end torque. A built 302 does not have high torque numbers. I have been down this road several times in the past. If this is your dailey driver and you are at all concerned about longevity and gas mileage then do not do it. I have a hopped up 5500 rpm 351W in my 1984 F150 with a detroit locker 4.30 rear end that will smoke the tires big time. But, its my friday night truck, not my daily driver. Just keep it sensible.
