I just bought a toyota ps box for $35. The guy said it was off an 84 4x4 truck. It is a power steering box, but did is there more than 1 type. $35. sounds too good for a box that is in good working order. Is there spline#s or something I need to check. Thanks Kurt G. Y-blocks rule.
Is there more than 1 type? And who is the cheapest source for pitman and bracket and other stuff. I'm getting it ready for winter prodject. Kurt G Y-blocks rule.Y
Yes there is. I just fiquired out that 1984 was the change over year for toyota for front suspension. So 1984 toyota's had either straight axle or IFS depending on date of manufacture. I just bought my toyota power steering box off of an 1984 straight axle. I will post a pic in my gallery for you.
I paid $125 for mine with the attaching hardware and thought I got a killer deal. The vendors who sell rebuilt units for $350 and up are apying $100 or more for cores. I guess it all depends on what part of the country you are in...

No... '85 was still the solid front axle. I had an '85 extra cab built LATE in the model year, had the solid front axle.
yeah fiftysixF,
absolutely right, toyota ran straight axles all the way up to 1987. I have had as many toyotas as fords. I am currently looking for a 1987, last year for straight axle and first year for EFI, thats a real rare find. I was just warning that IFS began in 84, not all toyotas had IFS until after 87. Also australian models (if you can get one shipped are still straight axle option available)
If yours looks like the one in the picture here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...60_Trucks.html you're all set and a lucky guy to find one for that price. If your's looks like a long skinny cylinder, see if you can get your money back.
I like the mount and parts Mid Fifty sells. They have a complete conversion kit as well.
