Getting ready to put an enhanced engine in my 88 Bronco, so I purchased the Mass Air Conversion Kit so the new computer would recognize that I had differnet cam, heads, intake and throttle body...
Old engine runs better, but now rear anti-lock brake warning light stays on all the time... I've replaced the sensor before but this seams to be too coincidental to have been caused by anything other than the new computer module...
It'not the EEC module causing it. There are a couple possibilities:
1) When you reconnected the wire harness, you bent a pin (I guess that would mean that it could be the module). Pull the harness, and check to make sure all the pins are straight.
2) Did you change rear axle gear ratios? If so, the hall effect sensor is reading the tone ring incorrectly. ou'll need to find someone to calibrate it for you.
Bent pin is a possibility, however since the conversion kit places a connector in the middle of the computer to original wiring harness connector I suspect that the signal from the sensor is not being fed through to the computer, I have not changed differential gears, so all that is the same.
Does anybody have the correct pin-out for the 66 pin computer connector, and does it stay the same from year to year, model to model?
I installed the conversion kit on my 93 F150 and had no problems with brake codes. I did have a problem with a strong gas smell after installing. Ran the codes and the code for the canister purge valve showed up. After checking how harness was wired I noticed that some of the connections had been eliminated to create room for rerouting of pins. After calling the help line a Ford I was told that the system was not for road use the connection wasn't needed. I fixed up a jumper wire from the pin and conversion harness connection outside over and back into the conv. harness to wiring harness and purge valve has worked fine since. Don't know if that's your problem but food for thought. Pat
I too just installed the Coversion kit on my 1988 302. I also got the code canister purge error.. I don't completly understand how you fixed the problem... What is a canister purge?
Brent The canister purge valve is the little round metal thing that mounts onto the plate in front of EGR valve with one vacuum line going to throttle body and one going back down to carbon cansiter on frame to your left facing truck. The purge valve function is to remove vapors from fuel tank. The way I fixed my problem was to strip a single strand of wire from a short piece of wire. Then I put one end in the pin hole of the conv. harness (don't remember which one) making sure that it didn't come in contact with any of the other pins and attached conv. harness to processor. Next pulled it over harness and wrapped it around the proper pin a couple of loops and back up on top of conv harness and taped it down. Then connected the original harness in and it has worked fine for almost two years. If I can be of any more help E-mail me at Wrenchman@Peoplepc.com. Pat
