Is it possible for me to run 351m heads on a 351 windsor? I am starting a winter project that will include stroking a windsor.
I would like to use the M heads rather than the windsor heads. I also have no clue where I can find a manifold to use. I've heard the nick-name for this is 351 CLEVOR. Any advise or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
>one thing to keep in mind is the " M " heads have a larger "
>cc " than any of the cleveland heads .
Most sources I've seen say that the 2V cleveland head and the M head are virtually identical in volume. The Monroe book lists the M heads at 78cc while the 2V C heads are 76cc. Frankly that much difference is within the acceptable limit range and would have virtually no effect on C.R. or performance.
I don't mean to mess up your project but i went down this road several years ago. After talking to several engine builders and Ford MotorSport Tech service i was convinced to not use the heads at all. The cleveand type heads made there way into the racing arena back in the days when there was no other heads to choose from. They were good then and they still are good but why use old outdated parts. There are at least a dozen after market heads that flow like gang busters that are brand new and supported by all the after market parts. Just something to think about.
What about having the existing heads rebuilt ?( And from what I understand also having Chevy valves put in is a good thing )
I am thinking of going this route along with a new cam
on my 93 5.8
If I were going to spend the time and money on Cleveland heads I'd go ahead and spring for some Ford or Edelbrock aluminum Windsor units. Some times these guys come loaded with the valves and are a close match money wise when you start adding up porting and machine work costs.
OK Here's My 2 cents
For your project find a set of Aussie 2V heads 65 to 68 cc chambers you can find them on Ebay most of the time Cheap. Put the bigger 2.19 1.71 valves in them an the hardened valve seats.Don't need much porting other then cleaning up the bowls a little and gasket matching to intake.
The Intake you'll be looking for is B&A Clevor intake there being made again by someone in Tennessee, But my Buddie has two of them seating on the shelve in his shop if you need one. You'll have to plug the water holes in the heads with freez plugs and have to drill the one on the intake side of the heads for the intake crossover. And you need special head gaskets for this set-up, that are available from
Price Motorsports Eng. out of Indaina there Number is 812-546-4220
there's also instruction that come with the head gasket to simplfie this set-up.
You can get some really nice Cerama-coat headers out of Jeg's #289-86052 $209.99 to top it all off. These headers really keep the heat in the pipe and the engine compartment cool.
Just my 2 Cents

This is a good site for Ford head flow data: http://home.isoa.net/~mharrisj/fordhead.html
If you are intersted in porting your own heads I suggest http://www.fordmuscle.com. Lots of other usefull info there as well.
