dirty oil

Why can't I get the oil to clean up in my PSD.I purchased the truck 3 years ago with 50,000mi,changed the oil every 3,000 to 5,000 mi. but can't get it to stay nice nice.I've been using Shell Rotella T 15/40 and NAPA Gold filter. There was a short stretch of time where I used....dare I say it....Amsoil,but I got rid of that @#$%.It's definatly not anything of what it's cracked up to be.Anyone that has any ideas how to keep the oil clean,it would be appreciated.

Not really sure but I believe I have read not to use any of those oil flush addatives on a diesel.Just in case your thinking of it.My truck has 135,000.on it now I change the oil once a month.I do a thousand a week. The color is a golden brown when It comes time to change. Not dirty by anymeans

Did you ever have the oil analyzed by BLACKSTONE LABS?
I bought my truck used with 79K miles and did my first oil change with Shell Rotella T 15W-40, I had the oil analyzed way back and the report was good.
I have since made the switch to Shell Rotella T 5W-40 synthetic and the reports still are good, showing normal #'s for engine wear.
I have many friends that run Amsoil and sewar by it, but I just can't afford the stuff, still too much for my budget.
I can get the oil I need at wally world any day of the week

I can't stress it enough.
have your oil analyzed ASAP
www.blackstone-labs.com

they will send you some sample vials for FREE, but the fee for the lab tests is like $22.50

my oil changes have been dark. I change my oil every 5K and test it every other oil change.

What are some of the things I can find out from this?

the oil will blacken up quicker if you don't let the engine get good and hot, IE short trips. at least thats what I've been told. I change mine out every 4000 miles and it's always nice and golden brown, but I drive on the average about 175 miles a day

Nope,it probably would have stayed clean at a 3k interval, but not @ 10k and not @5k either, and that adds up to one hell of an exspensive oil change. As long as we're on the subject my truck seemed to start better with the Amsoil, but after seeing my results and reading alot of arguements on FTE,I never used it again. But like I said it started alot easier.
