I am in the process of wiring my 56 and got to the brake switch. When I had my EZ harness in the truck before, I just used a pressure switch stuck into my master cylinder. I am using a firewall mount hanging brake pedal assy and was looking at the different brake switch options to go back with and just don't like b+ being so close to a flammable liquid, like brake fluid. So after my 98 Ford wouldn't shift into gear and the brake lights would not work and after I got my big belly wallered (great Southern word) under the dash and a dog cussing, I got to see a late model brake switch and that dern broken wire. So here I go to the parts store and purchase a 98 Ford brake switch for my 56 and after a little precise wallering out the clevis hole(That sounded way too dirty). It work like a charm. Just some info for you hanging pedal guys.
I don't think you will ignite the brake fluid with the brake light switch...
the pressure switches are in the line, separated by the diaphram in the switch itself.
What was your hanging assembly from? perhaps the switch from it would work?
Oops... I see you have it covered.......... congrats.
I used a plunger style switch for a mid-70's Ford pickup. I tried two different inline pressure switches and neither would work correctly. I have the stock style brake, mounted to the frame rail. I made a bracket for the plunger switch and it works great.

................if Im reading this right, you're a fat man who doused his dog in brake fluid, then lit the poor thing on fire? You sick bastid! You'll get yours Mr. dog torturer, OH YES YOU WILL!!!!!!!!
Did I have anything constructive to add? OH YEAH!! The brake light switches were similar all the way back to '69. I replaced the sw. on my '69 Cougar last spring, same basic set-up. If I remember right (AND I ALWAYS DO!!!!!) it was 12 bucks @ NAPA.
My brake pedal assy is new and from Fatrodder. I have not heard of any of the pressure switches failing but I sure used alot less wiring.
Hey Last, how do you like that pedal assembly? Its one of the ones Ive been eyeballing. Ebay buy? I like the guys prices... was worried about the build/quality of it.

.........LOL.......now THAT is funny! (well, unless you're the dog)
I made my own hanging pedal assy for my 49. I scavenged a pedal and pivot assy from a late model Ford Focus (it was a freebie) and built my own bracketry that tied the firewall, dash, and steering column together like modern vehicles. I used a plunger type brake light switch as well.

Yes it was. I am very please with it. It is very tough and durable and it is built well. The only problem that I had was getting it lined up between the ridges on the firewall, but it work out great.
