Upgrade glowplug controller
As the title states I´d like to upgrade my glowplug controller to the 87 and after IDI´s As described on Diselmans page (Controller,Harnes,plugs)
My Question where is the controller mounted on the 87 and later models I know its on the back of the intake Is there enough space? has anyone done this yet? anyone have a pic ? just to know where its mounted

Wiring harness, controller and glow plugs will be about 400 dollars.
Also the 87 and later harness will not plug into the existing chassis harness.
I am running a new style harness and glow plugs, but I still use the stock relay with manual control.
Also since I have mechanical gauges, I only need one wire to open the FSS in the IP, run the timing and cold idle speed solenoid.
I did figure out which wires went to the oil pressure sender, water temp guage and the overheat light.
But you have to cut the plugs off both ends and splice the wires to make it work.
The holes are in the intake manifold where the new style controller mounts.
Look for them in the back intake runner almost dead center of the motor.

I think some one her once swapped the newer controller and just adapted the existing wiring harness to make it work. If the internal resistance of the ZD1 (older plug) is the same as the ZD9 (newer) glow plug are the same, I think it would work.

You could probably do that, and just mount the controller/relay where the relay is on the old style system.
I do think the ZD 9 glow plugs are a better plug than the ZD 1A in the original system.
Wanting to swap to ZD 9 was why I bought a new engine harness.
But the connectors for the glow plugs will be a bit hard to find.
