Hi all, not sure if i am in the right forum, but i just got a nice 2006 f 250 Amarillo. i would really like some cablights. the ford dealer will not do it at their service, or bodyshop..i suppose i should take this as a sign of leaving it alone, and not having someone drill holes in my roof.
however, has anyone done this?
is there a kit?
i know with the older trucks the plug wire was there factory installed, same with these years?
any input on why not to do it, or how easy it is would be much appreciated!
Yes/No. Some shops are putting together "kits" from the individual parts. You may want to check out a couple of the FTE sponsors, as I know a few have a kit available. It is basically just the OEM parts--the 5 lights and the wiring harness.

The plug is behind the passenger kick panel, if I recall it correctly.
It's not a bad job at all. I followed the instructions posted above and had no problems. Use oem parts. Most Ford dealers don't want to do lots of stuff, thats just their nature. If its not quick and easy they loose interest fast.
do i need to take the complete hedliner out? I read a post on another site that said the seats needed to be removed to get acess for the headliner to drop??
mine is a crew cab.. does that make a diff with the headliner size?
also, i did do this along time ago on an 84. there was a "metal shelf" on the roof and the wires need to be fished from the holes, are the new ones the same/
also,,,, the old style just had the one wire coming thru the hole and piggytailed together.. the post seems to show a plug needing to come thru??

no the only thing you need to remove is the a-post covers, the passenger grab handle, the visors, and the overhead console cover. i just installed mine this week. the wire harness has plugs that plug into each light head. when you drill the center hole, the socket will sink below the roof and you just plug them in to the harness. the only hard part is making sure you have them lined up straight and correctly. the rest is time consuming, but easy.
I did the install on my '06 Supercab. Fairly easy. The most time consuming and scary part was drilling the holes in line. I got my lights from y2kford.com for under a hundred bucks. My local stealer ship wanted $200 for the same OEM parts and another $300 for the install.
Check out my gallery for pics of my install. Also defiently goto emotoman.com and check out his light install writeup. That site and also the spacing dimensions provided by y2kford were a biug help for me.
