I have 2006 FX4 PSD. Same thing. 2-3 months ago it would just not work at all. Completely blank when I start the truck. They replaced the AC Control head unit. Was fine until yesterday. Now no fan control. Always on high. Turn head unit completely off and blower goes to defrost and still blowing high.
Set to Auto and at least I can turn AC on or off and control the temp. Just turned 38k miles. Head unit replaced under 36k warranty. Wonder if they will hit me for a charge this time?
I went to local dealer after putting up with this for a week. They did not have the part in stock and told me it was like $90. I was able to talk to one of their techs and figured out where it is located. Mine is just behind the acumulator under the hood on the passenger side. There is a harness/connector going to it. The bolts are a PITA to get out. You are best to remove the screws holding the acumulator so you can push it out of the way a little. Then you can use a long extension and a universal joint and socket to remove the last bolt.
I went to the local Autoway dealer and they sold me the cross referened blower controller for $52!!! I could not believe one dealer was 2x the price of another!
Hah, Found It.
The Blower control is a solid state unit, behind the accumulator,
the bottom screw is definitely a "PITA". I changed it to a Phillips head screw when i put it back.
This a Generic Darlington Transistor. I drilled out the pop-rivets,
soldered a new one in, and presto!!! Fan Control again.
These things tend to fail in the shorted position, which is what is causing the fan to run in "High".

Good deal Greg. Glad you got it. I read alot and found someone who said it was only a diode. I did the same and opened it up and replaced the diode I thought was bad. When i put it back in however, I went from fan only on High to no fan at all.
I still have my old one so I may change the transistor and have it for a spare.
