Ok , here is whats going on.
I have a 03 f350 with the 6.0
I just drove from Arizona to Alabama to pick up my new ish 05 37 ft 5th wheel RV and towed it to CO in the mountain and then back to AZ, the truck pulled fine and for the most part did not have any problems.
I did get it a little hot on my last mountain over pass coming out of flagstaff back to PHX, I pulled over and the truck cooled right off and I took off again with the boost being normal and truck pulled great. when I got home I dropped the trailer and after a few hours I went over to the in-laws and on the way there I noticed that the truck drove ok, just lacking some power and the boost would not go over 4 lbs. in the past once in a blue moon the turbo did not want to produce boost but always worked fine after a few trys.. anyway on the way home from the in-laws it was still doing this... I have 91k on motor. and I don't know what could be cause it to stick, I would not think the vanes would stick if I just go through drive it across country.

well , I found out why I have low boost. in order to trouble shoot this I had to set the park brake and have my wife hold the brake pedal and slowly hold down the gas pedal , while I stood in front of truck to listen for leaks ( I could here a hissing while driving with the windows down, so I knew I was blowing my boost out under the hood some where. anyway standing in front of the truck while wife holds down gas pedal and vehicle in drive to put it under a load... now I know what your thinking....not smart.. and i guess I was going to find out how much she loves me... well as it turns out she did not drive over me hooo !!!
anyway back to the problem at hand . it sounded like the bottom boot on the passenger side and I could feel air there too. but boot was not leaking so I took it off and with a flash light I can see about 5 inch's of red O-ring sticking out of were the intercooler and its tank meet. so it looks like I blew a o-ring. now I have to find out if this is under warranty for the engine or not ?
and if I can just unclamp the tank from the inter cooler and put some o-ring lube on it and put it back on ?

Best bang for the buck buy a banks technicooler system. You will have welded aluminum end tanks. Install time for 1st timer approx 1.5 to 2 hours.
dealer said they would replace intercooler but they also want to change out turbo . and being i have a 03 .. look like i will loose my cool sound 03 turbo

i thought the 03 turbo had a biffent amount of vanes that just happen to get it the loud sound there know for...and they dont make those any more i thought. so i thought i would be getting the turbo that is on the 04- and up are the same. right ?
Don't let them change it if you don't want to. If you have no problems with the turbo and you don't want to lose the sound, don't change it. If they will do the IC for free, (warranty) then thats all you need. Even better than a Technicooler is a Spearco, using their bar and plate design, can scrub off almost 400* from the intake temps using the 6.0 Spearco, it's expensive @ $1300 but it does the best job.
well here is what i am think ... i have priced the inter coolers after market there 1200-1400 $ and yes i know the stock one is not as good, but there doing it under warrnty, plus there doing th e labor... i can still up grade later. now for the turbo.. there putting on a rebuild one.. i will see if its the same 03 or just what ever ford is using. but i dont want to loose mine, but here's how i am looking at it lets say i have them leave the turbo on.. it does have 91k on it ( trailer miles on alot of them )
whos to say it wont go bad in 10-20k miles anyway. and then i have to foot the bill there going to be giving a new one bascily that should last a long time. i did ask if i can keep the old one, they said no there is a core charge they pay.. when i goto the dealer monday to drop it off if the core chrage is less that 200$ i think i will tell them i will pay it i want to keep it as a spare. beside i am think about trying to put it on my modded 86 mustang !
i did ask them dont you guy now day just clean the turbo, to get the vanes from sticking ( that is what there think is wrong , but i dont. that another story ) they said back east they do but out west here they replace them most of the time
... (period, period period), If Ford has come out with an update or replacement part that is better designed than what you already have on your truck, they may opt to install it.
that what i was thinking that the new style turbo the one with diffent amount of vanes... is what ford is using now days correct. it is the replace or updated turbo. i dont think that mean they have to find me a old style one to put on.. dont get me wrong i want the style i have now. i will ask them about it too. i just dont think that i going to get it. i mean let say they replace the injectors but ford is using a diffent kind that is conpatiable beacuse they may have changed vendors or etc. you mean to tell me they have to go back to the old vendor and get the old style or use the newe style . i would think i would get the new style. anyway i will post what i find out monday
