is there a way to bypass the saftey switch on a 96 ford bronco? I just bought this of an idiot that tryed prying the switch with a screwdriver instead of tightning the bolts for the colomn that were loose for the shifter and he broke the switch. ive got a new one ordered but i would like to be able to move it tonight. they should never sell a truck to a idiot with a 5 dollar socket set and no brain.
if you have a new switch on order anyway then you can cut the wires at the switch and short the wht-pnk wire to the red-lt blue wire this will allow you to start the truck. you will not have back-up lights but at least you can move the truck
thanks guys i decide to wait till tommarow and spent the day cutting those stupid safety torx bit screws off the top now i get to drill out the remains what was ford thinking with those stupid things
If you want to know WHY Ford put the tamper-proof Torx bolts in to mount the top in 1992, check out the red link in my signature. The answer is right there.
BTW, I would NOT recommend cutting up the wiring harness @ the MLPS. Cutting and splicing down there under the truck where the road grit and crud gets everywhere just makes the idea of exposed wires or splicepoints a very BAD idea. Not to mention the fact that if something DOES short out there is the very real potential to damage the ECM (main computer) since all of that shift position information gets sent back to the computer from the MLPS. Just wait for the new MLPS to get to you. Make certain you install it according to the adjustment settings or you will end up with more headaches than its worth. Fortunately you have a 96 which will be easier to install. (In 93, Ford changed the pin configuration and the shape of the MLPS connector... the swap is a LOT tougher).
