I know that the rear of the cab is wet from the rear window rubber leaking. The front under the dash is also wet. It goes across the ds & ps where the firewall insulation meets the floor. I pulled the carpet & would like to stop this problem, before putting new carpet in. It only does it when it rains. I'm gonna seal the drip edge with new seam filler & see how that does. Anyone have this problem in the past? How to fix it? Thanks Todd.
If your truck is like many of the other Fords I have seen it's rusting out around the windshield. There's no easy way to fix this, you need to remove the windshield, cut out the rust and weld in new window sill material.
Like Conanski said it's likely due to rusting along the top edge of the windshield where it is seated on the metal. I had the same symtoms as you seem to have, and this is how I fixed it yesterday.
Remove the silver plasticky trimming around the windshield (be careful not to lose the little retaining clips as they tend to pop out)
Inspect for rust. In my case I found 2 possible leakage points where the water might have infiltrated the cab.
I took a very narrow steel brush (same sorta shape as a toothbrush in width)
Gently scrub the probelm areas and free all the loose rust.
I used compessed air to blow away all rust pieces
I then cleaned the area with a little bit of solvent
When dry, I applied a bead of 100% silicone (exterior for windows and glass)
Press the trimming into place and make sure you get about 12 hours of no rain for the silicone to cure.
We had a huge rainstorm over night and my cab was bone dry this morning.
This won't permanently solve your problem as rusting will likely persist, but it should buy you a few years for a couple of $ in silicone and 1 hours work.
I was wondering if it was the window, or some spot around the cowl. Sounds like I need to check the window. Thanks for the advice. Any other thoughts would be helpfull too. Todd
