6637 Filter Mod upgrade question
has anybody tried using a wix filter 42790 instead of 46637 for the mod.
its 1/2 in shorter, but 2 inches rounder.
the wix site says it has 680 CFM compared to 425 CFM of the 6637
would it fit if you take out the battery tray?
any comments? would it last longer?

A 9.5" filter with a 10" diamater would sure look imposing. I'd have to rework my homemade battery tray to make it fit. No way it would fit in the stocker.
Might have to order one just to see.

That sounds interesting. I seached it on napaonline and it "looked" promising. I saw it was 10.5 vs the 8.5 on the 6637. If so, it might be too tall to close the hood. Don't know that for sure but even more flow would be great. Where did you find the flow numbers?

My 6637 just fits between the battery tray and hood. It's also pretty tight between the brake system by the firewall and the side of the battery box where the intake comes in from the grill. Not sure if two more inches will fit there.

Look in my avatar. I have to tilt my 6637 just right to get the hood to close. If I cut off the bottom "fingers" of the battery tray, a larger one might fit, but I don't think I could get another 2 full inches in there.. pretty tight already.
