Hey I have a 82 f-150 with a 2bbl carb and a 302. I was looking for some general tips in getting better performance out of the engine. I am aware of dual exhaust but not too sure about going with straight pipes or at least having glass packs for a little bit of back pressure. Also I might be rebuilding another 302 for the truck shortly any tips for that would be appreciated I am not sure if stroking it would be worth it because i dont have too much money to spend. Any advice is welcome . Thanks
well...if you are going to build another engine for it anyway i'd do all my performance work on the other motor and swap them later. if not this can be done to both engines, if its a 2bbl set up switch to a 4bbl with a good aftermarket intake, get a cam and some headers. these things right here are the most bang for your buck. more specifically someone will recommend the brand choices for you, b/c i don't want to recommend the wrong parts. Glass packs do sound real nice i've got a set on my 82 f-150. a little poppy and boy do they sound good at wide open throttle. If you are going to go for it, i'd also get some aftermarket heads or port the ones you have and then get an upgraded ignition. this thing should be sweet when you are done.
If you just want to change the exhaust,
a cheep set of headers *AIN'T* gonna help
at all.
These trucks are a bit of a PITA, as the
fuel tank is in the way. Your stock manifolds
(exhaust) flow just fine for some mild upgrades.
First on my list would be better induction, as in
an inexpensive intake manifold an an appropriately
sized vacuum secondary carb (600 cfm max).
