Caps or no Caps??

I just ordered some Centerlines for the truck. I haven't ordered the caps yet because I didn't know if I was going to use them or not. So I've been checking out alot of trucks on the Galleries here and there and found that almost everyone is using caps on at least the back wheels. And I guess it does look better so I will be oredering some... One thing that I don't understand though are the guys who use a cap in the front and completely cover up the lockable front hub? I am not sure why anyone would do this? I know the hubs are "automatic" But we all know what happens with that?? I can see using the caps that cover the hub were the dial is still exposed. But covering the whole thing?? Maybe these guys just don't take there trucks offroad?

I have caps in the rear and open caps in the front. I like the auto hubs but will trust them as about as far as I can throw a yugo.

U Might not be able to throw a Yugo but I bet you could darn sure run over it!!!

U made my point exactly!! I would never trust an "automatic" hub enough to cover it!! Because the time you find out it doesn't work and lock automatically is the time you will need it to the most!! Count on it!!

I buy my trucks to work, lifted and all my truck earns my paycheck. When I need that 4x4, I want to know that if all else fails, I can just turn the dial.

Nothing at all, some like em and some don't. Its all preference, I just like easy access, that's all.

I was not aware that some of these covers (like yours) can be removed w/o removing the wheel....If that is the case then I guess it's no big deal. I would just not want to cover them with a cover that wouldn't allow me the option of manually locking the hubs if necessary.

Thanks for the reply,

JB

Yeah, the factory covers just snap on from the outside. A lot of aftermarket wheels, especially if they show the lugnuts, have a cover that goes through the wheel.

That's fine as long as the caps pop off from the front. Some caps have to be removed from the back and require the wheel to be removed tgo get the cap off. I personally like the look of the open caps and being able to lock my hubs manually without removing a cap.

Centerline wheels are my favorite wheels. I love forged aluminum wheels. I would never put anything but forged wheels on a Super Duty. Good choice.
