Bah aerodynamics. Everything is curved. If a crappy '90 Chevy fullsize van with a 305 can get 17 mpg, a stock 51 F-1 will get 16-18 mpg and a 50's car with a flathead can do 20 mpg (heard 25 mpg once).
So if I have a more efficient engine albeit more powerful (9.0:1 compression, EFI , overdrive and higher gears) and only about 200 lbs heavier than stock, I should be able to match or exceed a stock truck. I do plan on adding aftermarket cruise control too.
Just sort of thinking, I'll have about a 60/40 weight ratio in my truck so it's ready for the track.
