Well I'm gonna have the car till the wheels literally fall off or it totally blows up. All available funding has been allocated for truck use.

Hey I'd love to get your mileage in my 51...

20 mpg highway would be great on your old ride. With the numbers your looking to get it might be possible.

If we do some math:

Truck weighs approx. 4400 lbs with me
331 and AOD
3.73:1 gears
235/85/R16 32" diameter
18 gallon tank

At 70 mph (112 km) I'm turning 1837 rpm with approx 300 ft-lbs of torque available.

Now compared to Sherm's 2002:
Truck weighs approx. 4800 lbs with him
4.6L and 4R70W
3.55:1 gears
I know he has 16" rims so I would guess he has 30" diameter tires
25 gallon tank

At 70 mph (112 km) He's turning 1948 rpm with approx 200 ft-lbs of torque available.

So I should be able to at least match Sherm's fuel mileage just my truck is slightly taller and wider but shorter.

thats pretty interesting Nathan!! one question though, what are you weighing me in at?? i sure wouldn't mind that 300lb/ft of torque. maybe i'll shuck out some pennies for a supercharger...

Well your truck weights 4655 lbs empty so I just picked a nice number to round up too. It probably should be 4850 lbs. Probably would be cheaper to drop a 5.4L in as then you would be on equal footing with me. 330 = 5.4L

5.4l AND supercharger, perfect!
With a few more mods can you say $$$$ Lightning?
Nathan, your 51 is taller and with only some of the aerodynamics of a brick.....
Maybe a top chop, hood pie cut, a belly pan and channel job would help
some what?

there is a guy on FTE who has a lightning built s'crew, but i'm grown rather fond of my little 4.6, so i think it stays. maybe end up with a few more bolt on's it the $$$ allow it, but it will stay a 4.6. oh yes, call it 4835 and we're even...

Yeah the areodynamics would be worse with the 51. But even if it was similiar fuel economy that would rock.
