289 302 interchangeablitity

so i just so happened to spin a bearing in my 289 a couple days ago and i wanna take this opportunity to refresh the whole engine and i happen to have an 88 302 roller block thats in good shape laying around my question is can i drop my 289 crank and rods into that 302 block and have a roller 289 after i clean the crank and rods up (it only span for bout 45sec and i shut it off) cause i need to keep the 28oz imbalance and i would rather keep my 289 displacement i am very happy with it but i don;t have a whole lot of money but the motor needs a refesh

I think you should be ok but you might have to machine the lip off the end of the crank where the rear main seal is, something about the one piece and two piece seals.

Seems to me that the 289 has a shorter stroke than the 302. That's how the displacement was increased in the first place. They both have a 4" bore. This would tend to put the piston farther into the bore at TDC reducing comression. You may want to think about decking the block to regain some of the lost compression.

302 289 deck height is the same only difference is stroke and with the block i wil be using i will have one piece rear seal vs 2 piece but the piston will reach the same height on both motors
