signal lights no flashing
We had thunder and lightning here on the north shore of Lake Huron for the last week and LOTS of rain.
This morning, after not driving my '92 Ranger yesterday caused too many headaches.
For starts, when starting, it was fluctuating between 3,000 RPM and stalling (standard with 4L V6). I let it warm up but it still idles funny and still starts with a want to stall? Hopfully fully drying out will fix this?
Also while driving the battery charging guage reads higher than usual- right at the top of the normal.
My biggest concern now though, is the signal lights staying on rather than flashing. Once before this happened on one side and it was just a bulb out, but this time it is both sides. Should I look for two bad bulbs or is it more likely to be the flasher unit?
So get an accurate volt meter check on whats really hapening. If it's really that high, pull the alternator & have a no cost bench test done at your favorite autoparts store. I'd suspect maybe it's voltage regulator has gone belly up!!!!
If so ,then maybe some of your other problems are being aggrivated by that.
Once it's fixed & system voltage is back to normal, if the high idle thing is still going on, I'd suspect the IAC. You can read up on it in this forums "Tech Info" tread, located atop this forums thread listing page.
The acting out turn signals may also be due to the overvoltage problem, so just another reason to address the voltage problem first.
It may have damaged the flasher & fried a couple of lamp filments.
Keep your solid state things like radio, tape player, ect OFF, until the voltage thing has been put right!!!!
Hopefully it hasn't already fried the computer!!!!
Anyway let us know what you find.
