Need fitting for brake line to master cylinder

In replacing my old master cylinder on my 1964 F100 Stepside, the brakeline-to-master cylinder brass fitting was so stuck it was destroyed during its removal from the old master cylinder. Now I've found that this is a somewhat unusual fitting as my NAPA dealer does not even have one. Here's the fitting I am talking about although the one I need has a smaller inlet than the one shown in the photo. The brake line coming out of the master cylinder is a small line approximately 3/16" OD. Any suggestions where I can find a replacement fitting is greatlly appreciated?

You know I had the same problem. I just went to the local Advance Auto right nearby, and I picked through a few drawers they had full of all sorts of different brake line fittings, etc.. Found one and finished my brakes the same day. Advance Auto didn't have the "exact right" part either so I just found one that would work from their selection.

Thanks Matt. I'm located in a small west Texas town but we do have an Advance Auto about 35 miles away. Tomorrow I will check with the only two other auto parts stores here in town but will plan to head for Advance this weekend if I come up empty.

That old brake fluid can really do the job on metals. We tried everything from a box-end wrench to a socket to get the adapter out but to no avail.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

What would be best is to find a NAPA that makes hydraulic hoses. Thats where i got my fitting. The same fitting was used until 1979 on dual master cylinders.Worst comes to worst get one from a junk yard.

ford390gashog,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this particular NAPA that told me they do not have this fitting does make hydraulic lines, although mostly for agricultural equipment. I'll hit the two other auto parts store here this morning, then plan to head for Clovis, NM, my closest larger town. I'm sure I can find something.

Thanks again.

Don't forget to check the Ford dealers....this is a "hardware" item, and dealers rarely if ever throw hardware away.

It can't be returned to Ford and may lay in a drawer for 50 years or more. The older the dealer, the better chance you have of finding one.

Take the following part numbers with you, dealers hate lookin' up all these old parts, and without the numbers, will just shine you on.

358165-S .. Brass Fitting

Here's another part number...both these brass fittings fit everything car & truck: 1949/66

8L-2276 .. Brass Fitting ~ 1/2 -20 x 1 1/8"

Green Sales has one of these.

NumberDummy,

I had completley forgotten about the Ford dealership, which BTW is the only dealership we still have. However, no luck. He wouldn't even run the number.

I did however find a fitting that would work at our oldest auto parts store downtown. Saved me a 35 mile round trip in my 12 mpg GMC at $2.93/gallon! Whew! If it warms up a bit, today the little Ford will again have brakes.

Thanks to all who answered. Have a great weekend.

An old post but I just went looking for the fitting and here's what I came up with:
The brass fitting, 358165-S, is an adapter that is a female 3/8"-24 inverted x male 1/8" NPTF and used for a 3/16" tube. Various makers/retailers and part numbers are:

AGS BLF-57B
Carquest 124320
Dorman 200B
Edelmann 124320
Fairview Fittings 148-3A
FMSI Universal 3481
Papco D148-3A
Weatherhead 202x3

LMC Truck sells the AGS part under their number, 45-3622. $1.95 + shipping.

I always think it is great if people provide answers to questions! Old or not, at one point someone has the same question and will hopefully find the answer! Well done @TxKnuckleBuster
