when i am driving my truck it sounds like i have alot of pre-detenation. it is usually at about half throttle. when i hear it i usually do a hillbilly tune-up and run it hard until it goes away. but it seems like it comes right back within 5-10 minutes. i do put injector cleaner with the cleaner in it to clean the combustion chamber but what else should i put in it to help get rid of it. i am scared to use to many of the seafoam cleaners as i am worried that they will clean it to good and loosen some junk up that it keeping it together.
thanks
does it ping when cold engine too?????? if so check ur temp sensor that goes to computer not guage was a problem 4 my truck and with a new one and seting timing with a lite only realy watered down gas lets er ping
no it only does it when i give her hell. under normal driving it makes no sounds but if i go to pass or im picking up speed on the highway it sounds like a diesel, until it clears it throat then it sounds pretty good.
Try the SeaFoam. Carbon build-up can raise the compression ratio enough to cause detonation (or pre-ignition). Check your timing, too. Both are simple checks to start with.
i went out today and got the codes. i got 33 67 77. i think 67 is that the ac is turned on during test, well i don't have ac on it so that one makes no sense. 33 was something about the egr valve. i just changed the sensor on top of the egr valve about 2-3 months ago so i think it was in the cm. and 77 i think was because i touched the throttle when it was testing.
i did use seafoam in it today, thru the brake booster. and it did not help the problem at all.
67 relates to the clutch switch or neutral switch on an automatic. If you have an E4OD transmission, it may be because you didn't push the O/D cancel switch when prompted during the test. The 77 is because you didn't goose the throttle when prompted. Try running the test again. After the single flash, stomp the throttle momentarily and then touch the brake pedal and push the O/D cancel switch if applicable. If it's a manual, try holding the clutch pedal to the floor during the test.
i think the timing could be getting alittle advanced.
after running the seafoam in it and putting the rest in the gas tank it seems to run pretty good. when i would start it when it was warm before it would rev up like i had my foot on the gas. but now i haven't noticed it doing it since the seafoam. and it idles alot smoother.
i changed the oil back on the first of may and i looked the other day and the dipstick read that it was just at the bottom of the hash mark. so not to bad for a 17 yr old motor.
