Can someone please tell me what the original horsepower numbers are
for a completely stock (except manifold) 390?
I have a 76 F150 that I'm replacing the motor on, and I'm curious
what differences (performance wise) to expect going from a tired 360 to a stock 390.
Thanks for the input.
According to an old shop manual I've got it shows the stock 390 to be right around 255 hp, unfortunatly it doesn't say what rpm this figure was achieved at, so I can't tell you if its gross or net hp?
My stock 360 shows to be 170hp at 4100 rpm. Hope this helps.
The 390 truck engine's 255 horspower rating was gross,or bhp(brake horsepower). The 390's net rating(this is from a 1972 year engine)was 163 horsepower@3,600rpm.The gross rating was 201@4,400rpm.I think Ford rated the 390 truck engines at 255bhp from '68-'71 ,but after that they changed them.Ford offered soooo many versions of it's 390 in soooo many different types of cars&trucks from 1961-1976 it depends on what you want your 390 to do.The truck 390 was offered from 1968-1976.
