02 headlights

I've got a buddy who is trading in his 02 V-10 Super Duty tomorrow he said we could swap headlights tonight before he takes it to the dealer in the a.m. The dealer is a friend of ours and said he didn't care cause he was going to send the truck to auction anyway (140K miles on a gasser). the ? I have is, are the 02 headlight assemblies direct drop in replacements for my 99's, If not what else do I need? Question # 2 is do I want to swap my small tranny cooler for his V-10 cooler?
Is there anything else that I might want off his truck?

His trailier tow mirrors (if he has those). They fold backwards and forwards and extend outward.

I believe the headlights are a direct swap.

As for the cooler, I know that the price is right but it might have junk in it from 140K of use? Might just want to buy a 6.0 cooler - it's bigger anyways - and save yourself the trouble. Just my 2 cents.

I already have the late model mirrors thanks to another super duty and a narrow bridge, and after I posted I got to thinking about the cooler and the possibility of shavings and trash and decided not to get that.

Headlights are a direct bolt in, the cooler would be nice to have, but make sure you clean the heck out of it..Flush, flush, flust it before install..

A radiator shop can flush and clean that cooler out perfectly for ya.

O.K. just got back. got the headlights traded out, and I must say the 02truck actually looked better with my old headlights. His truck had the clear lense parking lights and turn signals wich have the lines(deflectors) in the lenses and they matched up perfectly w/ my old faded headlights. The newer 02 lights looked much better on my truck since I have the amber turn signals and parking light lenses. I must say those little compression clips on the bottom of the headlight assembly can be a bit*h to get out with so little hand room. It also did not help that 30 min. into R/R a huge Thunderstorm with lots of lightning came on us.

I was going to remove the tranny cooler and swap it over but my buddy reminded me that was one of the reasons he was trading it in was because the tranny was going south. I pulled the dip stick and the tranny fluid smelled bad burnt. Even though we had a parts washing system I just didn't trust it to get all the goop out, and since he has to have the truck at the dealer in the a.m. and we both have to work tomorrow we just didn't have time to take to local radiator shop for flush.

Post pics of your headlights, sounds like an interesting combo with the 02 jewel headlights and the amber turn signals. I assumed you were taking the clear signal lenses too. Unique combo.

Snoop around flea-bay and maybe you'll can land a v-10 or 6.0 cooler.
