Looking at this truck on autotrader, that has a new jasper engine in it. "1986 FORD F150 PICKUP, 2500 miles on new Jasper engine w/warranty, automatic, power brakes, power steering, air conditioning, CD player, bedliner, extra rims and tires. $3300"
I was wondering what the general thought about jasper engines are?
I know this isn't the right forum for this question: but do ya'll think this is a good deal, it will be my firt car. Any certain questions I should ask?
First question to ask is why are they selling it? If I just put an engine in a truck I would not being selling it already. Ask if you can run a compression check on it just to make sure everything is ok with the valve train and rotating assembly. When you go to look at the truck look to see what kind of workmanship was used to put the engine in. Some people will smack an engine in and call it good. I am a neat freak and like things to be hooked up and look like is was stock or better. Check the under dash wiring for crappy wiring splices (I had house wiring nuts under mine) or an excess of wires running every where. Check the overall condition of the body. Is there a lot of mud and junk stuck to the bottom of the truck? Any obvious wet spots around dynamic seals? What do the brakes look like? Are the rotors groved? Tubing look ok? Rubber lines to the front and rear brakes cracked? There are a million things you can look at to see how well a person took care of there vehicle. The more things that are wrong to more you are going to have to replace. Check kelly blue book to see what the private sell price is for that vehicle. If it is well below the average price then look harder. You can alos get a carfax report to see if it has ever been in an accident or scrapped. Hope this helps a little.
Jasper engines are fine, but they are exspensive. If you are buying a truck or car with one in it, no problem. If you are having your own engine rebuilt, Jasper is about the most costly among many options. DF
