Injector Problems, FYI

I figured I would share my problem so ya'll could troubleshoot if the problem does arise.
While traveling down the Interstate @ 75MPH on cruise my '05 FX4 SCAB w/32k suddenly started to shutter as if I had a tire blowout. I stopped to check and smelt that the exhaust reaked of raw fuel, so I knew something was pretty bad. I went another 5 or so miles to my exit to see if there were any changes...there were not. The exhaust sounded as if I was trailering a boat down in the water. I stopped and put my edge back to stock and turned back to home. The truck seemed to get worse as I traveled the 20 or so miles back. But, she got me back home! After calling Roadside Assistance to tow it to the dealership and having it looked at...they stated that an injector had dropped out, which was my thoughts going in. They replaced the injector, plug and COP. Now I am back on the road.
I thought this might be useful to ya'll that are out of warranty and like to work on your own stuff like myself. The funny thing about it, after it running like pure crap and almost pouring gas out the exhaust, I never got the 1st dash light on!

Yea thats funny that the ECM didn't detect an injector misfire or a cylinder misfire. Thats odd. And, obviously, your Edge wouldnt have detected a problem if the ECM didnt. Thanks for the info.

Wow. Thanks for passing that info along...good info to file away in the memory banks in case that ever happens to me.

I'm really surprised that you didn't melt down the catalytic converter or wash down the cylinder wall and score the rings with all that raw fuel pumping away. But sounds like you have it back running.

yeah, probably about 5k miles from now that cylinder will start knockin'...but they will be able to see what caused it before...so maybe they will fix it after warranty.

dude its not your injectors, its you spark plugs, one of them or more. i have a edge programer, coil kit, ford racing headers, and dual flows w/cutoffs. and all that spark that was going to the spark plugs fryed 3 of my spark plugs. so i upgraded to ford racing 0 degree spark plugs and things are all good. i first tryed the stock ones again but like 3 weeks later it happened again. it also might be your coils, thats why i got that coil kit from mossmotors.com. when the coils go out it sounds like your lifters are knocking, like a off beat cilcking noise. 1 more thing might be fuel related but i dont think so from what you described. SORRY I ONLY READ HALF OF THIS BEFORE I STARTED TYPEING. SO YEAH THIS IS MY STORY ON WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. JUST DISREGARD ON MY TROUBLE SHOOTING COMMENTS

Watch out for your catalytic converter.

I had three of my injectors replaced on my 05. The dealer said he thought the converter would be OK but it might fail in a few weeks. Well right on time it failed. Bottom line, all eight injectors were replaced along with the cat. Has been about a year and no problems since. My symptoms were exactly like yours. Runs like ***** and smelled of gas. I bet with all of the raw gas going into that converter it will fail sooner than later.

My 06 had 2 injectors fail and then one of the cats failed at 79K. I was lucky if i was just 1k over the factory warranty would not have applied.

well, after driving it off the lot from getting fixed the engine light came on after about 10 miles...so i went back and they ordered a new cat. but the engine light went back off after i left and has not come back on. oh well, i'll let them change it out anyways.
BY THE WAY I SMOKED A POWER WAGON HEMI THE OTHER DAY...BUT I HAD TO GET IN BEHIND HIM AFTER THE FACT TO TURN OFF, SO IT WAS NOT AS GOOD A SMOKIN AS HE SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED. HE WAS TRYIN HARD TOO. THAT POWER WAGON SHIFTED INTO 2ND AND SOUNDED LIKE IT SLIPPED OR SOMETHING FROM THE EXHAUST TONE.

It happend to me on my '05 at 15,000mi. Four injectors went bad at the same time. I was on my way to work and noticed that the engine was rough accelerating from a light. The truck would barely go to 55mph and within 2 mi the engine light came on. The dealer towed the truck in replaced all injectors and replaced all of the spark plugs. I have 32,000mi now and no problems.
