Took my son to his 1st MLB game yesterday and watched the Cards beat the Giants 7-0! I drove "Big Blue" from Indy to St. Louis, driving 67 mph with the cruise, no air and just taking our time. When it came time to fuel up I about fell over. I was averaging 17.1 mpg!!! This is the best I have ever gotten with my truck since I bought it, was I happy!!!
The moral of the story is, Thanks to FTE and all the tips about tune-ups, shocks, fuel economy and everything else to help us make our trucks better!

Reason: Grammer correction..
Like I said, if I knew I would love to tell the secret!! I drove 67 mph, cruise control, no air, just a nice drive from Indy to St. Louis. Trust me, I even checked it twice, 17.1 mpg. I always have been a pretty conservative driver and this is the first time I have had a chance to stretch "Blue's" legs on a long trip and I was pretty happy!!
Best for me has been just a smidge over 15 mpg a couple times strictly highway driving using cruise set @ 70.
17 would be nice.
I did get 44 on my Goldwing Saturday on a benefit ride. At least I get to smile at the gas pumps once in a while. LOL

Were you going downhill on a tailwind all the way.............?
Way to go! That drive from Indy to St. Louis has to be about the most boring drive in the country, especially once you hit Illinois. (No offense to the Illinois crowd)
You got me beat but not by much. My 05 reg. cab 5.4 got 14mpg over the weekend towing my little boat. My last unloaded highway cruise was just over 15 mpg doing around 67 mph with a little around town driving on that tank of fuel.
Towing my bronco is another story. Then I'm right at 11 mpg.
I got 17.5 ONE time on a trip from San Antonio to Dallas (or back...can't remember which way). But I've never been able to match that again. I think the couple of secrets working together are 67mph, cruise control, no AC. Those three things can certainly do wonders for you. I actually average about 16mpg driving back and forth between Houston and San Antonio, and the high 13's to low 14's driving around Houston (it's a straight shot down a fairly major highway into work and back home...and I do everything possible to avoid traffic!).
