Has anyone made a tank out of 1/8'' steel and mig welded it together. I know the weight would be high. Would there be any other draw backs.Aluminum would be nice. But hard to weld. Any thoughts?
Thanks for all the kind words, to answer your question(s) my tank is made in 2 pieces, the bottom and front are one piece and the top (rounded part) and the back (the part you can see) are 1 piece, I had the sheet metal shop machine weld the seams for a couple reasons, the heat is much better controlled and the bead rolls onto both of the welded parts, much stronger than you (I) could do with a mig and it isn't warped. The rest is straight forward, the pics pretty much show the whole thing, it's really simple and was reasonably inexpensive. I had had it ready to pressure test for about $200.00. It is all 16 guage, a little on the hefty side but it won't oil can when it's full and it will take a hell of an impact to puncture it.
