I got a 2000 f250 sc lb v10 and the rear brake line on the driver side right before the axle just rusted right out.Its funny cause the rest of that line is pretty clean(no rust).whats the best way to fix this ?.. I dont believe you can get prebent lines.Would i have to buy a precut line and try to bend it with a bender and replace the whole damn line or just cut out the bad piece and try to flare the lines and put a new piece in with fittings. My third option was just to bit the bullet and bring it down to the local shop and see how much they will charge me.Safety though is my #1 concern though. Thanks
Stock brake lines are made out of mild steel. They can rust from the outside (trapped salt against the line?) or even from the inside. Brake fluid does attract and hold water (which is why it is important to flush your brake lines every few years).
There are a few things you can do to prevent this from happening again. First, replace the steel lines with stainless steel lines. They are harder to bend and flair, but won't rust out on you. Second, use a silicon based DOT 5 brake fluid. DOT 5 fluid doesn't attract moisture.
