Post door ajar switch problem

Trying to change out the switch again. Super Duty 99 f250.

Door ajar light keeps coming on and the dome light stays on. Makes backing at night a huge problem. Pulled fuse to keep lights off now no dome light or power windows.

Have door all torn apart but can't figure out how to pull the switch out of the door closing mechinism. Had same problem 3 yrs ago and got advice via net to fix it . Part lasted longer than memory and now both are gone.

Anyone know how the get the switch out of the latch?

Thanks, John Proctor Oklahoma

door ajar switch problem

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Jan-03 AT 09:00 PM (EST)]First, I noticed this is your first post so welcome to the site!

I can't help you in getting it apart, but a good fix for this problem has been a healthy dose of WD-40 in the latch mechanism. You don't have to take anything apart, just free it up with WD-40.

Thanks. I will try that. It did work some the first time around but then the door ajar warning light wouldn't go off anymore.

door ajar switch problem

Matt, I'm having the same problem as John. In my case, the warning light does not malfunction except in warm weather [above about 65 degF].

I'll try the WD 40, but it seems odd that the latch would stick in warm weather but not in cold??

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Tom

door ajar switch problem

I have had the same issue. It started about 8 months ago and I have been able to stop it with the occasional shot of WD-40 into the latch mechanism, but it seems to be more and more frequent that I have to put a dose of the WD-40 in there. Does anyone have pic's or advice on how to do the full change out or just disable the door ajar switch all together without effecting the interior dome light.

Its not that hard to remove the latch !
Remove the interior door panel ,make sure the window glass is up,you have to remove the exterior handle of the door by removing two nuts
One of which is hidden behind a black plug on the door edge .the other is inside the door.
Once you have the handle out there is a a control rod that needs popped off. Then there are 2 clips and 3 screws holding the latch in,along with cable to interior handle an wires to the sw.
