not on the 92-96, it has the clutch that screws onto the water pump itself.

i will also chime in on lifetime napa parts.I bought their best 5.8 lifetime starter and it seemed to go bad almost exactly after a year. They relaced it three years in a row and on year four pretty much told me to pound salt.

So if the smog pump can just simply be removed from the system, might I ask just exactly what it does? Seems to me that this could possibly slightly improve gas mileage too...?

Side question: What size belt do I need for a stock 351 with a deleted smog pump?

man, you ask a lot of questions.

most of what you just asked has been covered before.

i do not have a problem with my smog pump so i have the stock size gatorbelt on and i can't help you, but do a search and you should get some answers.

do you ask this many questions in the bedroom? hahahahaha

So do you find the Goodboot Gatorback belt better than a Gates Greenstripe?

But was it a GreenStripe?

As I don't care for the "Standard" Goodyear products with having failures or short term life.

My buddy was lead Mechanic for the city of P'Cola years ago. They put the Gates Greenstripes on all the police cars and they lasted. One adjustment after 30min of running and never had to touch them again.

But understand this was before Serptine belts were even put on auto's.

I've been running gates Greenstrips for years and "TRY" to get the GreenStripe hoses too. They are not available all the time. I do have greenstripe heater hoses on my truck now.

Had to go to Ford to get the oil cooler hose setup.

Yeah sorry 'bout all the questions. I've tried using the search feature countless times but for some reason it just doesn't work correctly on this site. It always gives me zero results for any search, even very generic searches. VERY FRUSTRATING. I might give one of the gatorback belts a try before I delete the smog pump. Thanks for the help guys.

The smog pump pumps air into the exhaust, and into the catalytic converter. There are air ports in each exhaust port (after the exhaust valve) that it pumps air into. It also pumps air into the catalytic converter so it can reach a higher temp (I believe) in order to reduce emmissions.

I used a 94.5" belt on a stock 1995 351w with PS, AC to bypass the smog pump (stock is 102"). Belts typically come in 1/2" sizes (i.e. 94, 94.5, 95, etc.). A 94 would not go on the pulleys & a 95 got lost on it. The 94.5 worked great but was just slightly looser than stock. It worked great except on startup on extremely cold mornings when it would sometimes pop off. So I installed the next size larger idler pulley (OEM is 76mm, I installed a 90mm) and that took care of the popoff problem.
