Rearend Noise

I've got a 99 f-150 4x4 with a 5.4. I've replaced the brakes all the way around and the rearend is clunking constantly. I don't know if I need to replace to u-joints or wheel bearings. Any advice is appreciated this noise is driving me out of my mind. I'm not sure how to replace the wheel bearing or u-joints

well, im guessing its an auto, cuz its a 5.4, and ford didnt make a 5.4 (or many) cuz people were blowing their clutches (cant people drive anymore???), or thats what the dealer told my dad when he bought his truck, which is a 4.6 5 spd. anyways, i ended up buying that truck from him, and i had the same thing. so i put it in neutral with the parking brake on, and tried to turn my driveshaft, turns out, my pinion preload had loosened crazy, so i had to retighten that (15-20 inch pounds for the 8.8 rearend). there is now some slack in the driveshaft, cuz the backlash is screwed up from the pinion being able to move up and down about an inch, which allowed it to hit the truetrac in my rearend as well.

anyways, i'd get downin the dirt and just check that, as well as the output on the transfer case, just since ull be down there.

good luck
