Audio in 94 Bronco

Hi All,

Didn't know if this should be in the audio forum but thought I'd try this one since I'm looking to get guidance specifically for my truck. So I had a couple of questions.

1) Does anyone have pics of steps or know how the front and back speakers can be replaced? I thought the grills would just pop off but I've tried and see them bending a little so I stopped. Do the whole panels have to come off?

2) Also, in trying to clean out the truck, I found this:

Is that an amp? The connector (which is the one sticken out of the cupholder) looked odd since it looked like one of those older serial port printer cable plugs. It looks like the wiring started from inside the center console out since that plug can not be slid out of the current opening unless I cut the plug off.

3) Any recommendations on speakers or HU's? The current deck is the JVC KD-GS911 that I can't find specs online for. I wanted to get a new one that has bluetooth/mp3 capability. I've looked at the selection on Crutchfield and currently debating between just replacing the original speakers (that is if they're original. wont know until i see behind) or getting a component system where I either have to drill a hole to add tweeters or use Q forms at the kick panel.

Thanks,
John

I replaced the front speakers with some from Crutchfield. They included excellent instructions and even gave adapters to connect to the stock connectors. Pulling the door panels is easy.

The back speakers i would go to crutchfield. I made a big mistake and went to best buy and bought some 6x9s. Well the back speakers are 6x8 or 7's i cant remember. But i made the 6x9s fit by taking off all the plastic in the rear and take out the brackets that hold the speakers and cutting and fitting them. It was a very big job. If you go with the RIGHT fitting speakers the grills just pop out, Just be carefull that you dont break the tabs. Good luck

To remove panels

Remove all screws along bottom at armrest and by vent window.
Remove power window switches you can leave them on harness they will fit through panel.
Starting at bottom panel pull out away from door they are held on with barbed plastic pins .(buy new pins at help section of parts house They can get damaged and cause rattle ) May be a fight but it will come. If screw are stripped put piece of wore in hole and run screws in.
When everything is loose pick up slightly it will pick up off door and come off.
You will see the speaker.

I never change the back speakers in a 94 but a 91 I had the speakers came off. Just get right size speakers for easy swap.

Hide the amp in /On back panel Just put small 12volt fan on to get air to it. (if its hid it won't get stolen.

Lastly I can get you cup inserts cheap . The cup inserts for a 97-2004 malibu will fit right in hole . They don't say remove for large drinks but for $1-5 at the wreckers they are way cheap.

lostin90s,

thanks for the help. i broke down and got the mastersheet from crutchfield. pretty cool since it broke down on how to take off the stuff. ended up ordering a kenwood deck, some infinity kappas, and an amp. not sure if it will fit since crutchfield said it wont fit but cardomain and infinity said it will for the components i ordered.

thanks for the offer on the cupholders as well but i have them. i just took them off to take off that thing thats inside the center console. havent done it yet but i will.

has anyone installed an amp in that area? figured i would put it in there to conceal it but didn't know about how it would be temperature wise and if something was spilt into there. so i'm open to good locations if not there. you mention back panel as a good place. back panel of where? do you have a pic?

-John

amp locations

I installed my amps in the rearward panel pockets. My particular install was more complicated than others I have seen in this area as I re-inforced the panel pockets with aluminum straps and sheeting due to the off-roading that usually do. I am sure you can fit an amp in there in a much less complicated way. Look at my gallery to see what I am talking about.

you have to take the whole door panels off to replace the front speakers, just remove all of the screws, there are some under/around the pockets at the bottom. there is another one on top towards the back of the doors, pop off the vertical trim piece behindt the window to get to it, then unscrew the window controls and the srew in the handle. when you take them off, you'll want to pull up on the black handle, as if you were opening the door, and then lift up and pull it off. there will be two wires to disconect, one for the light (just twist and pull), the other for the controls (you might want to disconect the panel before removing the inner door panel.

for the back you will have to take the whole side off, just remove all the trim pieces, and then take out all the screws that you see, then slowly work it, and if something seams stuck, it probably is, so check for a clip or screw

oh, once you've done that, the speakers are very simple, just unscrew them, and put the new ones in. the fronts are 5-1/4", and the backs are 6x9"

redrummybronco - whoa... looked like that puppy took alot of work. although yours looks nice, i'm probably going to try to do a simple install and where from the outside, the truck looks like it doesnt have any goodies in it.

94nichols - are you sure the fronts are 5.25s? i think they're 6.5's and the back are 6x8's

idk why yours would be any different. now that i think about it though, i think some web sights said 6x8, some even said 5x8, but i had already bought 6x9's and they fit fine. I didnt have to modify anything.

if you can, it'd be cool to take pics of each step and post them to help other bronco enthusiasts
