A guy I know is in the process of building a tilt front on his dentside ('76 F350 4X4 flatbed with Detroit Diesel power) right now. I feel that some of what he's doing is a bit strange, (or at least not how I would have tackled it) but it looks to be workable. I'm thinking I might take my camera to his shop and see if he'd be willing to let me grab a few pics for posting.
He's already got the hinges done, now he's working on the latches. He's got the fenders cut straight down from the back of the hood and is going to put in hood bump stops from a big rig, remove the hood hinges and bolt the hood down and cut through the brace that bolts to the firewall and extends out into the inner fenders.
He's been sick and hasn't touched it for quite a while but I was talking to him last week and he indicated that he's going to get back to work on it.
Our chapter is building a '72 F250 into a mud bogger and this is something we've discussed doing as well...
My uncle has done it to 2 79's. I think his current 79 is just about done except for the hinges. Haven't seen him in a couple weeks so I don't know where it exactly sits as being finished.
There is a guy in Central Oregon here with a tilt front end that the hood still opens like normal, that way if you need to remove the engine, you can do it up and out the hood.
