I was just looking at replacement stock dash gauges on a website somewhere.
The stock gauges are about 112 dollars each.
The readings they give are worth about a nickle.
I think my wife paid 30 bucks for the 3 gauge set she got me from Advance. It has electric, oil pressure and water temp. That temp gauge works good, I can watch the exhaust temps go up and see the water temp follow. The truck runs between 190 and 205 depending on load and what the outside temp is. The factory gauge just comes up to the "O" on NORMAL and NEVER moves after that.
Oh I installed my temp probe in the top of the water pump. Let me warn you if you put it there you better have a 1/2" drive allen (forgot the size 3/8" I think) AND some leverage. I broke my 3/8" drive extention and thought I was going to bend the 2' long cheater I had on my 1/2". rachett, that sucker was rusted in there good.
Have you checked the sender and guage for correct operation........
Coolant temp guage....... Connect a 73 ohm resistor between guage lead and ground. Center line of the pointer should fall within the band around the C mark (if there is one).
If guage test within calibration, replace sender........
If guage still test out of calibration, replace guage...............
I would suggest sender.............
Diesel engine coolant temperature at the top of the radiator where hose attaches after high rpm or under load condition for 20 minutes should be (195-237*F) 91-114*C nice time to have a temperature reading point and shoot tool.
Have you done a fan test to see if it is operating correctly........ just google ...cdnsarguy fan test
installed the mechanical temp guage and it's running @210 going 60 mph @2000 RPM and no load on the truck. 93 f 250 7.3 IDI 3.55 rear end E4OD. Any other ideas?
just a thought, is the water pump functioning like it's supposed to? if the rollers in the pump are worn bad enough, may not be pumping enough to cool.

OP, now I got a wierd thing here. When I had my engine rebuilt the shop had a young kid put the belt on. It squealed a little at times but it wasn't bad. The lead Tech said it would go away. I started poking around and found out the belt was on wrong! Yep, it will go on different than it is supposed to. End of long story, The belt being on wrong caused the water pump to run backwards.
I traced out the way it should go on, since the sticker under the hood was way wrong for my truck. I will put in my galllery tomorrow.
