Homelink Visor Installation

As promised, pictures and some instructions for installing a homelink transmitter into the visor of the F150.

1. See the first pic below for all the stuff I used. You will need some glue for this. When I did this in my Expedition the visor had plastic button so the visor could be snapped back together. No such luck here, the plastic is glued. I also used a 12volt power source to check the functionality of the homelink transmitter.
2. Separate the visor along the edge seam using a trim tool or a large flat head screwdriver. The cloth material is held in place by small teeth that run around the seam. Just pull it out gently. You only need to separate the plastic and the cloth around the corner shown, no need to uncover and separate the whole visor. You will also need to remove the trim/button assembly from the homelink. Use a flat head to gently pry it apart.
3. Once you pull back the cloth you will see where the homelink is installed. Just cut out the plastic piece with a dremel or a really sharp razor, knife...or whatever.

4. Next, pry the vanity mirror housing from the bottom and remove it. Use the stock wiring shown to solder in some wires for power. The first pic shows the ground wire and second shows the 12 volt (at the top portion of the visor). Once you solder up these connections run the wires over to the homelink section of the visor. You might have to poke a hole or two, the plastic is relatively soft.

5. Fit the homelink into the visor, you might have to pry it in with a flat head.
6. Reassemble the vanity mirror
7. Now is a good time to hook up power and make sure your vanity lights work and that the red light on the homelink comes on when you press a button.
8. Pull the cloth back over the visor TIGHTLY (no slack) and feel for the three holes that are the button locations. Very carefully, use a razor to cut a hole in the cloth. Make a small incision and make sure you are in the right spot and widen the incision until you expose all three holes. Stretch the hole a little wider and insert the homelink trim/button assembly into the appropriate holes.
9. Now use some type a strong glue and apply it to the seam points you separated earlier.
10. Use the trim tool or flat head screw driver to push the cloth back into the teeth along the seam, make sure you pull it tight.
11. Clamp the glued seam for a few hours and you're done.

Instructions for programming the homelink can be found in your truck manual or on the homelink website.
