Cleaning?

Howdy fellas,

Well my concern this time is cleaning my engine, manual tells me makes sure to cover carburator and fuse box, and any electrical stuff, the only thing i find confusing is that i can't find the carburator? I asked my brother, how he cleaned his, and he told me that he cleaned it with out covering anything, i hope he did'nt mess up his engine, he owns a ford mustang v8, i would hate too see that lil car go to messes..anyhow, anybody own a v6 f150 2006 and if so, what should i cover when cleaning my engine? Or do yall even recommend cleaning my engine....its pretty dirty, i live in texas.

I simply spray an entirely uncovered engine with Simple Green, let it sit for 30 seconds and spray it off. Makes the entire engine bay look like it just came off the showroom floor.

As was already said, you don't have a carb, so it's a completely sealed engine, air filter down. Carbs are old old old school.

Right. No carb in these trucks.
Last time they used a carb in a F150 was right around 88.

I wouldn't suggest spraying the engine compartment with a water hose, but just a wet rag wipeing down things with a dry rag to get the little bit that's left should do the trick.

I don't like spraying water on my engine at all.I usually spray parts of the engine and engine bay with a general purpose cleaner or a non sticky shine/protectant.Then blow it off with the air compressor and wipe parts of it down. It's not the easy way but it's safer.A friend of mine owns a detail shop and I've seen him have issues when he got C.O.P.s wet on a F250.He lost money on that job. He's also had problems on other vehicles getting alternators and wiper motors wet.
Lots of people do spray the engine bay with a hose with no problems. It's a chance you take. You may be ok if you don't spray directly at the intake manifold or near the top of the valve covers. The injectors and c.o.p.s are in that area.Try not to spray directly at anything electrical.
I've had my truck for 17 months and I haven't put water to my engine compartment yet. This is what mine looks like using a similar method to what MBBFord described.

i personally use a pressure washer. if you just hold it back away, so that it is just a mist covering everything it washes really well.

That's what I use as well, after spraying with Simple Green. I've been doing this on all my vehicles for a number of years now, including my modified Mustang.

Just use common sense with what you're aiming the sprayer at and how close you get to it.

Sometimes when I just want to de-dust the engine, I don't bother with the Simple Green and I just give it a quick power spray.

I have been power washing mine for years also. When dry I spray with Armor-all tire shine. Still looks new @60k miles and soooo easy to do.

Hose it off man

Use a Q-tip and clean yer whole engin real good....dont forget to get around the base of the carberator and distributor cap.

No really, I just spray it with Gumout or Simple Green and hose it off. I dont spray real hard around the electrical stuff or throttle body. Then just let it air dry. Thats what I do, anyway.
