302 Fi Rebuild
I will be using the truck as a motorcycle salvage shop truck. It will get many miles and quite often be pulling a trailer full of salvage bikes.
It has a 302 FI and I thought I would but in a cam and a Hi-Flo Air filter kit. Any suggestions on these items and any other input is appreciated. Thank You
I won't be recommending a certain brand or grind of cam. I can however tell you what you need in terms of specifications.
You will want something that produces very good torque throughout your operating RPM, but especially in the lower range. To achieve this, the rule of thumb is to get a cam that is very close to stock with duration but has some more lift than the stock cam.
You can go to any cam manufacturer and they will usually list the cam you want as an RV or towing cam. If you compare the specs to your stock cam you will likely see that they are exaclty what I described above. Make sure that the torque producing cam is listed as a truck / RV application. A torque producing cam designed for a Mustang might not be enough...
Try http://www.compcams.com They have a good listing of their cams with applications. I am not very fluent in the for engine department, I am not sure how they compare price-wise with others, but in GM they are quite inexpensive for the good quality stuff they sell.
Hope this helps.
