As H.3 stated, there are Over 400 posts already answering this question.
its a 95 f-150 xl efi that means fuel injected right(new at this stuff), automatic, im working with a budget of about 1000$ which I think im gonna probly tear down and rebuild. still doing body work and hopefully be done by the end of the week for primer coat. Pics in gallery.
this probly a dumb ? but again im new at this. what are steps to an engine rebuild? ive done boat engines and motorcycle engines but never anything this big, but Its kinda of becoming more so fun and a project for me. Plus its gives me a break from the old lady.
Have you compression check it to see if it needs rebuiding. if it's not broke, dont fix it. and is it worth putting a 1000.00 into the engine. what the body look like. Most of these 300 will out last the autos they put them in. These engines are not the best engine to build up speed. If your wanting to build a engine I would build a 302 stoker. The 300 inline 6 cyl is a powerhouse of a motor. Its a work horse. I'm not say you can't make them fast but there are better ford motors to start with.
the engine in the truck is all kinda riged up so i kinda want pull it it has about 190,000 miles on it so its pretty beat up, I got another 300 that only has about 80,000 on it but something is wrong with the cam and timing, so i figure if i got to pull it apart i might as rebuild it and beef it up the best i can. if i switched out to a 302 would i have to mess with the computer, would i loose any torque, and does fuel pressure have to be changed, what about the electrical wiring? What would the gain be. I have read that 300s last forever and that they are a great towing engine so im thinking i would more so like to stick with that.
I belive that there is no other engine that can out pull or out last the 300cid pound for pound. It's excellent engine as it is. The only thing that I can think of that would give it a kick is a turbo.

What this gentleman said.
300 six's are bad to the bone stock. A lot of men here have beefed theres up. One man claims to have pulled up to 10,000 lbs with his. I'm probably wrong but I wouldn't doubt it. The 300 is a powerhouse...
