Hello, I have a 2001 7.3L F350. About a month after I purchased the truck the dealer sent me a Hypertech Power Programmer III. The box is a bit beat up and there are miscellaneous numbers hand written on it, so I assume it came with the truck and they just forgot to give it to me.
My question is: what do I do with it? Should I just give it to my mechanic or is it something I can use myself to ? (mess things up?)
plug it in and fallow the directions if youd like to use it, my guess would be the program may already be loaded, but you never know, i believe it also reads SES codes if you ever see the Service Engine Soon light come on. did your truck come with gauges (aftermarket type) boost, pyro, trannytemp.
Hey Melanie. It is pretty much as BigT says. Not really any damage you can do by plugging it in and observing what the unit says. It will tell you any program has been uploaded to the vehicle and what type. Tow,performance, Race/Extreme. If you don't have gauges installed in the truck donot use the programmer. It's vital that you have the ability to monitor your, Exaust Temp/EGT, Transmission Temp,& Boost levels when adding any type of programmer to your truck. Plug the programmer in to your truck and see what it says. If you have any questions, look us back up here so we can help you. If your not sure where to plug it in, it plugs in underneath the dash. I am assuming your not familiar with your truck, so I am adding some info for you just in case you don't. If you are sitting in the drivers seat/ position, and you reach down as if to scracth your right shin. Reach up towards the dash and you will feel a port. It's black in color about 1/2" Wide x 2" Long. This is where the programmer plugs into. Agian it will walk you thru the process. If you have any questions let up know or send me a PM. Country
Thank you Country and BigT for your replies. You're right that I don't know alot about my truck (other than the fact that it's the best truck I've ever had!).
There are gauges in a vertical row to the left of the windshield (boost, pyro, transtemp) which I keep an eye on. When I first purchased the truck I posted a few questions here and got some insight on what to watch for. I drive frequently to northern baja, many times by myself, so keeping tabs on how my truck is running is a priority. Breaking down in the desert, on either side of the border, is something I'd like to avoid!
The 'service engine soon' light did come on while coming west over the mountains last week. I'm going to plug the programmer in and see what it tells me. I'll post what I am able to find out.
Thank you again for your help! This forum is a great resource! I also bought a 67 bronco a couple of years ago and it's cool to have such good advice so easily available!
