I'm just getting started on my 53 F100 and looking at suspension options. Are there any aftermarket bolt in IFS and Rear 4 Bar Suspension systems out there beside the corvette system?
Thanks for the info, can you recommend a manufacture of a sound complete assy? I've read some posts about failures based on the system and want to stay away form them.
Based on what I've read on this site I'm leaning towards a mustang II IFS and a 9" ford rear end with 4 Bar Suspension or if you have a better recomendation I would greatly appreiate it. I'm installing a 351W with about 400 horse.
I have two trucks with IFS's in both; one is a C4 Corvette, the other a TCI MII. The Corvette looks cool and handles well but the rack and pinion sits high on the crossmember and requires an engine offset. The MII assemblies are pretty much the standard now, you can go with Heidts, TCI, or various others based on how much bling you want and price. Flat-Out engineering makes a bolt in IRS for the F100 that uses a C4 Corvette IRS. These are very cool especially if you are lowering the truck or running rear bags. Many people get a surprise when they bag their trucks; they go through all the frame clearance stuff (C-notching, etc) but forget about the bed floor banging on the top of the differential when the truck is dropped. With an IRS you won't have that problem, the center section doesn't move, only the wheels. I do have a 9" setup with a 4-link triangulated system and slam specialties bags...I bought it from Jason Thorbecke at Thorbecke Bros. They can hook you up with just about any setup you want.
If you would like to see a front suspension system that is very unique then you should check out Dick's gallery. He recently posted pics of his fully independent, quick turning, ininatley adjustable front suspension set up on his panel

go back up to 4tl8ford's posting and click on his name, you'll get a drop down box with several options, then click on "view gallery" His Out-of-this-world front suspension set up is in his first gallery.
If you are not set on an irs rear suspension. I can recommend the rear leaf suspension that RB's obsolete sells. I have it on my 53 along with mustang II on the front. It comes with new leaf springs, new hangers, shocks, c-notches and all the hardware. It mounts the axle on top of the springs. It's about $600 bucks. My trucks sits low and handles very well with this set up.
