VIN Tag Info
Soule, I forgot I was going to correct an error I made in the model number of the '46 V8 model. On my '46 V8 the tag is stamped 69C, not the 699C. I was thinking the VIN, not the model number.
The I is used as the 1 only on the 6 cylinder tags. I have in front of me right now the tag from a '47 V8 1/2 ton, and the 1 is not an I. Strange, but 1GC is stamped as IGC. This corresponds to the was it was stamped on both my frame, and the transmission.

Thanks Gary, that all makes sense now. I now believe that the use of the 69A as the model number used on the Merc Truck site is a typo. I believe the use of 69C as the model for the 1/2 ton trucks. The Merc site does claim that the sedan delivery shared the "A" with the passenger car, so I think that is the only "truck" with the "A".
I now feel confident that I have all the info that I need to get a tag reproduced. I will check again with Tags Back East and see if he will do it (well at a reasonable price, I don't think I want to pay 1/2 a grand for one -- I'd rather spend that money on the motor). If not I have a couple of ideas on how to make one.
If I end up making one I will post the results and show you how I did it, for anyone interested in trying.

I got the reply from Tags Back East, they do not have this tag and are not interested in reproducing it since I am the only one who has asked about it.
I am going to check around some and see if I can find a blank somewhere, if not i will attempt to recreate it.
